Summer has been nice, mostly consisting of getting coffee at Krankies and spending late nights watching/playing video games. Also, missing my boyfriend while he does responsible stuff like work and pay attention to his family.
Speaking of family, my dad is leaving this Saturday and spending two consecutive weeks in Dubai and Copenhagen for business marketing. No, partying every night is not on the schedule.. but Aaron and I might hook up my ps2 to my dad's TV and lounge on his extremely squishy foam-mattress bed. We could probably do that while he's home, though, so that's not all that exciting.
Oh, this wasn't a meaningful update, either.
As this picture (taken graciously from the Kernersville Rotary Club's website) shows, student and teacher (as it turns out Walker was) of the month were slightly too tired, slightly too full of biscuits, and mostly embarrassed at Coplin's unique drawl to seem graceful as we were spoken so praisefully about. It was nice, however, to be eating biscuits, grits, coffee, and orange juice while sitting next to my former AP US History teacher and principal at the same time. Strange, but nice.
Anyway, Erin canceled our plans for today, so I have nothing to do. :( I was watching some "World's Strangest UFO" somethings on the Discovery Channel but I can't really watch anything all the way through on television nowadays. I kinda want to clean up, but I'm kidding myself if that's going to happen. I need to do freaking laundry.
Though, last night, Chuck and I went to Waffle House at about 2am after I guilted him into sneaking out of his house. I had some coffee, and some raisin toast, and I ended up going to sleep a little after four. I had to wake up at around 9:30 to go over to the school, and even though I napped when I got back, I'm still tired. I see this as a good thing, though, because in theory I'll go to bed early and be able to wake up early to try to get myself back on track for school. However, since I have nothing to do until around 1:30 tomorrow, it is unlikely that I will wake up any earlier than noon.
However! I am victorious in my quest to be able to park at school! Lucky number thirteen parking sticker. They are a lot less fugly than last year, so I'm pretty happy with it. The lady that was selling the stickers was most likely an undercover detective, because she kept asking me questions that I see as irrelevant to the fact that I'm (or my dad) is paying full-price for a parking sticker when I'm not even going to be on the Glenn campus all day. Yes, I'm going to the Career Center in the morning, yes, I'm coming back for second period at Glenn. Yes, the permit forms are outdated and Career Center parking stickers are free with home-school-parking-sticker proof of purchase. I'm not a suspect in a murder investigation, am I?
Anyway, I saw Byron at the school this morning. He was driving up there to get a form so he could buy one, because they didn't send one with his schedule. I was expecting it to be deserted, because the only way I knew they were selling them was because Erin called the school and they informed her of this. It wasn't written anywhere. At least I won't have to freaking wait in line tomorrow at open house. Also, a funny tidbit of information: the stickers are blue and white, and our school colors are orange and white. Blue's just an accent color, or so says the chorus teacher. Whatever. It looks better with my car anyway.
Anyway, I'm kinda scared my dad is horribly mad at me and is going to inquire as to what my exploits last night were and why exactly I didn't come home until eight in the morning. I mean, it's not like I was doing anything out of the ordinary, but I feel so guilty when I don't call him and just shake all responsibility. We have to ride in the car together to see if we can get my non-functioning cell phone fixed and I don't want to face his questions.
I feel like I haven't been on the internet in forever. It's really just because I've been at Kearstin's since Wednesday night, doing all kinds of birthday things. Her party was nice. Jorge and Erin and Samia were there, and we cooked breakfast foods that were delicious. For the third year in a row, her present from me has been absent, because of either ill-planned ordering dates or just general slowness from the post office. Of course, as soon as I get home today, it's in the mail. Whatever.
Today was Samia's party, and Kearstin, Samia, Brooke, Charles, and I ate Chinese food and hung out at Krankies cafe/bar for like an hour and a half. I should have taken pictures while I was there, because this place is amazing, but you get a picture of my sister's new puppy instead. But, seriously, this place is amazing: they have San Pellegrino on tap, serve fresh-baked bagels with goat cheese from a local farm, and brew all their coffees on-site. Very leftist, very independent, very cool. Previously I was too scared to go in because I thought it would be way too hipster for me, but as soon as we walked in the guy behind the counter gave us a huge smile and said hi. It's pretty close to where I'll be having morning classes next year, so I'll probably stop in after class. Anyway, on August 19th, they're having a F.R.E.E. collective forum on sex education, and I think I'm going to invite Brittany and Chuck (and Cordell?) to go with me. I'm going to skip the ones about free trade and the Iraq war.
Also, my phone is dead and I bought some incense. My dad says we're going to go see what we can do about it on Monday, but I'm going to pressure him into taking me tomorrow because Charles and I are hanging out on Monday. It's not like the Cingular store closes on Sunday or anything. He wants to see if the phone is under warranty, but it's like three years old and has had three owners so I doubt it. I just better get a new phone, because my sister has ruined about three or four of her phones in the past four years, and she's gotten brand-spanking-new ones every time. This is the first one I've killed!
I've also been making these pretty awesome friendship bracelets for myself, which contradicts the whole idea, but I made an anklet for erzo and she liked it. :) They're pretty fun to make but I'm running low on embroidery floss.
Speaking of Erin, she came over yesterday after I got a bunch of blood drawn at one of the clinics my dad works at. It took all of twenty minutes, because we just walked in the employee entrance and one of the doctors on duty just did it super fast. My arm was pretty miserable for the rest of the day, but it's perfectly fine now. Also, excuse that weird blemish above the bandage, but I get weird blemishes all the time so it's nothing I really concern myself with.
Erin and I pretty much just drank coffee, went to church, folded origami, and ate popcorn the entire time we hung out together. It was lovely, though. :)
Also, what post wouldn't be complete without something about Harry Potter? It's a Deathly Hallows PSA. No spoilerz.
I'm drinking instant hot cocoa right now, and it's actually pretty good, considering. I was going to make it with my delicious vanilla soymilk, but there were only about two ounces left in the container, so I mixed that with six ounces of water. It looked pretty gross before I added in the powder, but it tastes fine. I do need to go to the grocery store tomorrow, though, to get coffee beans and soymilk. I found my mom's old coffee-bean grinder in the garage, and I'm excited to use it. I love coffee, but my dad always buys nasty Folger's, so I hardly make it at home. I'm thinking that I might make the trip up to Whole Foods in Winston-Salem, while I'm out shopping for used books, and buy the same soymilk that they sell at Food Lion with some crazy locally-grown, humanely-harvested, organic, fair-trade coffee beans. Can they even grow coffee beans in North Carolina? I don't think so.
Today was the Super Smash Brothers tournament, and it was over a lot faster than I had anticipated. There was this really cool girl there (she looked about twelve) that played as Pikachu.. she was my favorite. She even got into the second round! (Chuck lost first thing, but not to a five year old, so that's better than nothing.) Before that, we had eaten at delicious, delicious Chipotle and just hung around at my house. I realized that I probably won't be seeing him until the night of the 10th, which makes me extremely sad. I act like I don't have any other friends, which isn't true, but it's not like they're all completely free 100% of the time like I am. Seriously, though, the only things that I have planned are voluntary social outings like church and Harry Potter events. Not one single obligation. I don't know how I've survived this long without dying of ennui; my days generally consist of me waking up, checking my email and ONTD, eating, taking a nap until late afternoon, and then screwing around on the internet until I fall asleep. I eat about once a day because there is absolutely no energy expenditure for me to get hungry about. I also read, or play video games if I'm in the mood.
I was thinking about buying a new video game, maybe for the PS2, to combat the boredom but I don't know where to begin. I was thinking, maybe, Soul Calibur III, but who knows. I own all the decent games for GCN, and none of the DS games that are out at the time tickle my fancy. I own a total of four games for my PS2, so I figure there is an untold wealth of enjoyment out there for me. I don't enjoy RPGs, though, which is about the entirety of what my friends play, so I think I'll have to branch out on my own and talk to the video game expert guy at Edward McKay's used books and more. Heck no, I'm not paying full price for any video games! They're like CDs to me, except there's not an easy way to illegally download them off the internet.
Since I have to drive on the highway to get home, I had one of the best times ever. What I've gotten in the habit of doing, while driving down 311, is turning the interior lights in my car as low as they can go while still being visible, which makes the car almost totally pitch black on the inside. It makes the lights outside the car incredibly striking, and I drive about 80mph on cruise control, until the last two miles or so before my exit, where I just let the car coast until the stop sign at the top of the exit ramp. For some reason, this combined with the darkness inside the car is just extremely exhilarating.
Also, while doing this, I like to listen to weird Spanish music, like the lovely song to the top-left.
But anyway, it's time for me to shave, so you guys have a good night!
But, really, I've posted another song from their new album before.. but you should give this one a listen. It's lovely.
Also, you should come with me to their show on May 9th. And you can come to the Modest Mouse show this Friday, too.
In other news, I drank some really good cheap coffee today! Yes!
