Who is your favorite game show host of all time?
In other news, Aaron had me almost convinced my house was haunted last night and the air conditioning stopped working. My dad got the fan working pretty well, so if I shut all the vents in the unused adjacent rooms and keep my door shut, I can pretend I'm in Florida instead of sub-Saharan Africa.
Right now I'm listening to beautiful music and scanning my computer for viruses. I found out the other day that my student laptop initiative software bundle includes proprietary antivirus software so why not use it? Even though it's slightly annoying to hear the fan running so much but that just might be my MacBook's response to the heat.
I'm really excited for this weekend. Samia is turning 18 on Saturday (and Faithe is turning 18 tomorrow!) so we're going to get a matching tattoo. Wow, cliched? But no.. it's something we've been thinking about for a long time and I think it's going to be beautiful. Getting it with her is going to be super fun, and it actually gives me an excuse to get this done. I still can't 100% decide on where I want it positioned, though, but I'll discuss that with Samia. Also, Charles is spending the night with me on Friday, and there is talk of Jorge planning a movie date for a bunch of friends on that same day. Exciting exciting exciting.
What's making you smile today?
In other news, Harry and the Potters show on Tuesday!
What does your name mean and why did your parents choose it for you?
Submitted by mommy2two.
"I'm American, honey. Our names don't mean shit."
-Butch Coolidge (played by Bruce Willis in Pulp Fiction)
But, really, my mom named me after the actress Lauren Bacall and it's just one of those normal, common, names. I mean, it's fine with me; I don't exactly believe that your parents' choice of names determines your personality and motivations later in life when you can look it up on the internet. Usually those things are just so ambiguous that it can be right for anyone.
Anyway, I'm listening to Katie and Stephen arguing in the adjacent room. Kearstin might be coming over today so I can help her work on her history club thing for freshman orientation (next Wednesday) that I really don't want to go to. Being the president of the GSA, I should, and Kearstin needs me to go with her because she doesn't know what to do. I just have to stand there, hand out little flyers and candy, and try not to be annoyed by the freshman pieces of crap that say "THE GAY CLUB?!?!?!1". Nope, not looking forward to going.
Now I'm going to listen to some Shonen Knife to feel better.
Are there any podcasts that you never miss an episode of?
Submitted by Kadeeae.
Snapecast. No lie. On the About section of the site, it says: "Snapecast is the only podcast that is guaranteed all Snape, all the time. Every month we grapple with deep and probing issues such as Snape’s loyalty, Snape’s pain, Snape’s snark, and of course, Snape’s fabulous fashion sense. So whether you love Snape, love to hate him, or just don’t know what to think, we invite you to listen in and enjoy the snark."
That reminds me.. I need to get my Slytherin attire dry-cleaned for the midnight showing! AHHHH
Do you consider yourself a patriotic person? Why or why not?
But the song is pretty catchy, and says some pretty striking things. I don't hate the USA, or even the government, but I do feel a certain guilt and regret that a lot of things happen here that ruin the beauty and integrity of the country; whether it's the constant over-development of the land or the constant oppression of its people by corporate offices.
At any rate, I certainly do not want to leave the country, and I do love me some US History. I know a lot of people in my peer group hate it for its lack of "entertainment quality", unlike European or World History, but it's probably one of my favorite subjects. Ever!
Today, I'm not doing anything of relevance to the holiday, except perhaps watch my dad, my sister, and her boyfriend set off fireworks outside my window. I doubt we'll even have the unimpressive display of grilled meat items that we had last year.
Kearstin called me this morning and I felt that I was a little unnecessarily mean to her. She told me she couldn't take off the day from work that caused all this drama between her and Chuck on Sunday night, but "luckily" she wasn't scheduled. Okay, wow. But, I am taking a page out of her book today and cleaning up a little bit before the junk has time to pile up. I usually don't clean a thing until it all gets too unbearable to stand, and then it's some massive overhaul that I hate doing.
What time is your alarm clock set for? Do you use the snooze button?
It's set for 11:30am. This of course, is because of Summer time, and I don't want to sleep in that late every day. I only set it if I'm up really late and I think I might sleep past then, of course. If I go to bed at a reasonable hour and wake up past 11:30, that's perfectly okay. And I never use the snooze button, not even during the school year. I just get up.
Speaking of awesome, I procured the new White Stripes album and it really rocks my socks. I didn't really like their album Get Behind Me Satan because it was too much of a "modern" Stripes sound, but Icky Thump returns to their amazing, gritty normalcy. Love love love love. I also posted the title track to the album a few weeks ago. It's still my favorite because it reminds me of Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal which is one of my favorite movies ever.
Already today, I've eaten a bowl of cereal and I feel extremely bloated. Even though I don't even drink milk and instead drink light soymilk, I feel kinda nauseated because the soymilk tastes like milk to me. I should just put water in my cereal, really. I also took my mom to run some errands and it was far too early for me to be out.
I was thinking that I might go up to the library to check out a few books for lack of anything better to do. There are tons of books that I want to read, but I never remember them when I actually get to the library. I mean, I have a running list on my little library account website thing, but there are still tons that are left off. Not to mention the few that haven't exactly made it into library circulation yet. (What Would Jesus Buy?, I'm looking at you.)
Which band or artist which is no longer performing or alive would you have loved to have seen?
Submitted by Rev Stan.
Okay, okay.. I just pulled up his Wikipedia article (specifically the section about his death) and now I'm all torn up about it.
In other news, Kearstin and I are hanging out today but I need to clean my bathroom first. Sucks.
When is the last time you stayed up all night?
I think it was when Double A- Alcoholics Anonymous and birrychrist just.. stayed up all night, playing Super Smash Brothers Melee and driving around and going to McDonalds at 5am. I then went home and listened to the choral esembles competition on public radio and sat around the rest of the day.
Also, I'm procrastinating, so here's a song I really like. It makes me really glad Paris and Nicole are friends again, I mean, really. I would miss The Simple Life if they never made up.
Also: Yes, I like Paris Hilton. That totally makes me a complete idiot and a conformist with no ability to think for myself. If you listen to commercial radio at all, then you're supporting major recording corporations who defeat indie music and push CD prices up. But I torrent all my albums so it's okay.
So don't even talk about me liking Paris Hilton.
What were you doing one year ago today?
Submitted by CassandraMorgan.
Wow, interesting question. One year ago, today, I would have been getting ready for school right now (which I should be doing at this moment) but just in a general "today" sense.. let's go back to my Livejournal. I have entries from freaking eighth grade! It's like the chronicle of my life!

BLUARGGHH. I finished cleaning my room and it's less fulfilling that I would have hoped. I'll try to keep it clean(er) from now on. How hard can it be really. (famous last words) Anyway, HARMONYLAND is super fun. The arcade games are addictive. Zoo Keeper anyone?I want to get a ride to the mall today so I can purchase my pre-order for the new Harvest Moon game. And get a free stuffed sheep. :O | |||||||||||
I did eventually get that free sheep, and I named him Mozart. Chuck and erzo went with me and we took some pictures of us in the parking lot of Walgreens. Also, Harmonyland is this message board I was addicted to for a little while.
ps. Hi Nyssa! FLIGHT
What's one of your favorite quotes?

"If we aren't allowed to sit at the table of democracy, we'll kick the fucking legs off of it."
-Saiad El-Amin
I saw that in a zine once, and I can't find any information on the guy who said it. I'm almost frightened someone made it up, but it's lovely nonetheless.
